Five Minute Writing Challenge - "Sharks in the Forest"

Students took 5 minutes in class to creatively write. They used an  image they selected off of https://storybird.com for their creative inspiration. Spelling, punctuation, and capitalization skills are not the focus of this challenge! Students have five minutes to dig deep into their creative minds and write about what they see! 

Class Writing

Students assigned writing prompt to help strengthen their current writing skills. Students requested to include:
  • 10 Complete sentences
  • Correct punctuation, spelling, capitalization, BME format
  • 4 Vocabulary words (underline vocabulary words)
  • Write a short essay about how you would feel if one of your closest classmates or friends talking bad about you to other people. How would you feel? How would you handle the situation? Would you confront the group or your friend? Would you stay friends with those people? Has this happened to you? How did you handle it? 
After students completed their writing, they shared their writing in class.

Last week's homework was to bring a book to class. Half of the students did not bring a book. We discussed the books the students brought. Students read the first few pages of their books to themselves. Students completed worksheets about their reading.

Reading

New Years Mad Libs

Students completed a list of nouns, adverbs, adjectives,and verbs. They list was then applied to a story. The students read each story aloud, and discussed the elements of the story together in class. Students strengthened their reading and grammar skill with this fun exercise!
